We're increasing the number of small, tightly focused collections at the Library. Our goal is to make materials, in popular areas of interest, more accessible through the creation of high quality 'micro-collections'. By doing this we hope to make visits to the Library more rewarding for our patrons. Over the years we've had a small number of collections (Travel, Job Information Center, Computers) that have been quite popular. Our new approach aims to build on the success of these collections by expanding them (to include A/V materials and new acquisitions), adding new collections, creating a customized online catalog search tool (available here) and by partnering with organizations in our community. The Jacob Burns Curated Collection of DVDs is an example of our new approach. By partnering with the Jacob Burns Film Center and gaining access to their expert programmers, we are able to offer film lovers in our community a high quality collection of great titles. We're following this model with the Pleasantville SEPTA Parenting Collection. Our partners at SEPTA are providing financial support and advice and, as a result, we are putting together a comprehensive resource for parents and care-givers in our community. We're also expanding the number of collections that are 'culled' from our larger nonfiction collection. These collections, which are being housed on the first floor of the library (by the staircase on the left), will eventually include Health & Fitness, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Computers, Cooking, Career Information, Shakespeare, and Home & Garden. We're also very excited to be developing the MPPL Local History Collection. We are currently cataloguing all the materials in the Library and putting together a local history 'corner' (in the south-west corner of the building). We have many unique resources in this area and we are excited that this collection will become a much valued resource in our community. We hope you'll explore, and enjoy, our collections on your next visit to the Library. In the meantime you can also virtually explore some of our collections by visiting http://collections.mountpleasantlibrary.org
