The Lachenbruch Collection

The Mount Pleasant Library is the home of a special collection of Children's Books, named "The Lachenbruch Collection" in memory of an outstanding story teller, Mabel Hays Lachenbruch.

The purpose of the collection is to make available to teachers and parents some of the finest in young children's literature.

Mrs. Lachenbruch was a lifetime resident of Pleasantville. Her career in storytelling started in the Henry Street Settlement in New York City. She worked extensively in Westchester, in her own school and other schools, and in libraries. She also gave courses on the Art of Story Telling and doing storytelling for radio.
